Spread the Word Nevada’s Nevada Reading Week Efforts to Kick Off with the Australian Bee Gees

Who:    Spread the Word Nevada leading Southern Nevada in Nevada Reading Week participation. In 1987, the Nevada Department of Education began a statewide initiative for teachers and librarians to celebrate reading through shared thematic activities. And for the past decade, the literacy nonprofit has been instrumental in securing guest readers to participate by visiting its adopted elementary schools, reading to classrooms and talk about the relevance of books and career choices.

What:    Local celebrities and members from Win-Win Entertainment, community leaders, political dignitaries and members of the community are joining Spread the Word Nevada to participate in the week-long observance of Nevada Reading Week – February 29 – March 4, 2016. This tremendous week will be kicked off by the Australian Bee Gees visiting Wynn Elementary. They will read to several classrooms, entertain the students with their musical wonders and talk about the importance of literacy and the exciting world of musicians.

Nellis Air Force Base Airmen team up with Spread the Word Nevada to Provide More than 1,900 Books to Students at Manch and Lowman Elementary Schools

Who:    Spread the Word Nevada and more than 70 Nellis AFB Airmen to bring more than 1,900 books to students at Manch and Lowman Elementary Schools.

What:    Nellis AFB started Ruck for Reading in 2014 at Craig ES with 200 books and 7 volunteers. This year, the Airmen teamed up with Spread the Word Nevada and grew the program to more than 90 volunteers and more than 2,600 books. Uniformed volunteers will be visiting each classroom at both schools to hand deliver these treasures to the students so they can continue to grow their home libraries.
