Speedway
Children's Charities Make Commitment to Literacy With Kids
to Kids Grant
January
10, 2007 -
As
the Las Vegas Motor Speedway starts its engines in 2007, the
Kids
to Kids
literacy program is revving up its young readers thanks to
the generous $7,000 grant funding received from the Speedway
Children's Charities in December 2006. This is the fifth consecutive
year to be selected as grant recipients, with total contributions
reaching $30,000. Kids
to Kids
is thrilled to begin the New Year purchasing books that will
be distributed to at-risk children within Southern Nevada.

Kids
to Kids
Executive Director Lisa Habighorst (below) commented, "This
financial support validates the commitment Speedway Children's
Charities invests in our community. Their belief in Kids
to Kids
demonstrates the importance of early childhood literacy intervention
and the value it holds for successful futures. Together as
partners, Kids
to Kids
and Speedway Children's Charities are shaping lives, one book
at a time."

Kids
to Kids
helps at-risk youngsters create library collections of books
to keep at home, read over and over, and share with family
members. While developing a love of reading, these libraries
promote future academic achievement and higher self-esteems
which impact life-long success. Kids
to Kids,
a program sponsored by Spread the Word Nevada, Inc., got its
start in February 2001 and has delivered more than 710,000
books to 58,500 at-risk youngsters and their families. Kids
to Kids
currently serves students attending 12 Southern Nevada elementary
schools with Myrtle Tate Elementary joining the program January
16.
Literacy
opens doors to the future through which most of the youngsters
served by Kids
to Kids
would rarely have the opportunity to enter. It is a great
community that cares for those in need while preparing them
for a prosperous and successful future. Speedway Children's
Charities is recognized as a valuable part of Southern Nevada's
greatness.
