Kids To Kids Expands Program to Thirteenth School in Partnership With Nevada Power

January 17, 2007 - As a community partner, Nevada Power has already been a staunch supporter of the staff and students at Myrtle Tate Elementary School. Nevada Power has also been a strong sponsor for, and advocate of, the Kids to Kids literacy program, which creates home libraries for Southern Nevada's at-risk youth.

These children are now the recipients of the magic of books powered with the caring support from both organizations as Myrtle Tate became the thirteenth Southern Nevada school to join the Kids to Kids reading program on Tuesday, January 16, 2007. More than 800 preschool through fifth grade students participated in a kick-off ceremony.

Founded in February 2001, Kids to Kids, a program sponsored by Spread the Word Nevada, Inc., has delivered more than 710,000 books to 58,500 at-risk youngsters and their families. In the initial phase of the program, each student is given a canvas tote bag containing five books that he or she chooses. Each month, a new book is added to each child's personal library, and students can trade books with other kids in the program.
