Boulder
City Senior Center Volunteers Clean 100,000th Book for Kids
to Kids
April
28, 2006 - On April 28, 2006, a dedicated group of Boulder
City seniors was honored by Kids
to Kids for cleaning their 100,000th book for at-risk
children throughout Southern Nevada.

Since
January 21, 2003, dedicated seniors have met with Kids
to Kids employee Cindy Hensel (below, left) at
the Boulder City Senior CenterCindy comes prepared with
an average of 1,000 books that need cleaning and repairing.
Cindy
notes, "This time is not only about working with the books,
it is also about friendships, for as they are working these
senior friends share stories of their lives, their children,
their joys, and their sorrows. Seeing a favorite book of a
child or grandchild often triggers another fond memory. It
is time together that we all treasure."
Kids
to Kids provides nearly 11,000 children's books
each month to at-risk youth across the valley. Youngsters
select these new and gently used books to take home, read
over and over, share with family members, and treasure forever.
They are important pieces in the students' over-all academic
success.
Senior
groups also meet at the Henderson, Derfelt, Las Vegas, and
Lieburn Senior Centers.

Founder
and President, Laurie Porter comments, "Kids
to Kids is magic! It is a program that touches
the lives of not only the children served, but also those
who work and volunteer with us. We are heart-warmed by the
commitment of our senior volunteers at the Boulder City Senior
Center. Without their dedicated efforts, Kids
to Kids simply couldn't meet the number of books
we have promised to the youngsters at our schools.
"Everyone
should come in some time, grab a cup of coffee and a cleaning
rag and share in the laughter, conversation and friendship
exchanged at these cleaning groups. We are so pleased to be
able to celebrate the cleaning of their 100,000th book."
