First
Book and Kids to Kids Team Up to Change Lives, One Book at
a Time
May
13, 2006 - National non-profit First Book and Kids
to Kids
are collaborating to improve the lives of children. With similar
mandatesto promote literacythe organizations are
working together to get books into the hands and homes of
children throughout Southern Nevada.
Kids
to Kids
recently received 58,509 new books from First Book to distribute
to the valley's neediest youngsters.
The
value of these donations is a whopping $329,088.
First
Book is a non-profit organization that provides new books
to children from low income families. They respond to the
needs of community groups whose efforts are often burdened
by minimal resources and limited financial support.
By
giving a child a new book, First Book creates a ripple effect
of joy, self-esteem and learning. First Book offers children
the opportunity to receive new books for their own personal
libraries.
Kids
to Kids
knows all about the generosity of First Book, having been
the recipient of past First Book distributions.
Lisa
Habighorst, Executive Director for Kids to Kids comments,
"First Book is an incredible organization. Their locally based
distributions of books enable groups like Kids
to Kids
to put beautiful, brand new books where they are most needed.
"We
are so appreciative of the local advisory board, Donna Taaffe,
Elizabeth Templeton of Templeton & Templeton, and Michael
J. Franks, CFO of Sun West Bank. They have worked tirelessly
to bring these book distributions into our community, and
Kids
to Kids
is honored to have been recognized so generously with their
books. Together, we are changing lives, one book at a time."
