The MGM Voice Foundation Recognizes Spread the Word Nevada: Kids to Kids With Grant Funding for Third Consecutive Year
August
23,
2007 - There is a voice in the community that resonates loudly
on the importance of literacy. That "voice" is The MGM Voice
Foundation. Employees once again honored Spread
the Word Nevada: Kids to Kids with their generous
grant funding of $20,000.

This
was the third year for Kids to Kids
to receive this distinction and support. These monies are
earmarked to fund the program's Breakfast With Books project
that takes literacy to the families in schools supported by
Kids to Kids.
Spread
the Word Nevada's Executive Director, Lisa Habighorst,
explains, "Breakfast With Books is an amazing extension to
the home libraries that Kids to Kids
builds for at-risk children and their families. After the
children take the books home, we wanted parents to use these
books with their children by reading together. This before-school
activity brings students with their parents and siblings to
a gathering where breakfast is served, stories are read, literacy
tips are shared and books are selected by all in attendance
to take home and keep. It is so rewarding to see reading come
alive! The student's, and their family's, eyes sparkle as
they listen to the story being shared and as they select their
books to take home. Everyone from babies to grandparents leaves
with a new book to read and share together at home."
This
financial support validates the children's learning. It demonstrates
that the employees of the MGM hotel properties believe in
literacy and the value it holds for successful futures. Through
its generosity, The MGM Voice Foundation is shaping lives,
one book at a time.
Literacy
opens doors to the future through which most of the youngsters
served by Spread the Word Nevada:
Kids to Kids would rarely have the opportunity
to enter.
It
is a great community that cares for those in need while preparing
them for a prosperous and successful future. The MGM Voice
Foundation is recognized as a valuable part of Southern Nevada's
greatness.
