Kids
to Kids Celebrates Fifth Birthday With Storybook Gala
September
30, 2006 - Magic
was in the air as the Kids
to Kids
literacy program celebrated its fifth birthday at a fundraising
gala on September 29. Generously hosted by the Venetian Foundation,
300 guests enjoyed the elegance of the San Polo Ballroom at
the Venetian Hotel Resort and Casino.
More
than $77,000 was raised through this event, with all proceeds
benefiting Kids
to Kids.
KVBC
News anchor Maria Silva emceed the event with former news
personality, Doug Bradford, both of whom are long-time friends
of Kids
to Kids.
Having been an at-risk child who benefited from such programs,
Silva poignantly shared the profound impact programs like
Kids
to Kids
has on the lives of children.

Comedian
Magician Mac King delighted the attendees with his humor and
magic and closed his performance with a testimony of the power
that books had in his life and career.

Video
birthday greetings wowed gala guests, as well. Local personalities
shared their congratulatory wishes, including Rita Rudner,
George Wallace, Kendall Tenney, and Blue Man Group, while
state and national personalities included Governor Kenny Guinn,
Vanna White and Pat Sajak of Wheel of Fortune, Dr.
Phil and Montel Williams.
Gala
honoree Andrew Abboud, Vice President of Government Relations
and Community Development for Las Vegas Sands Corp., brought
humor and tenderness as he reminisced over his favorite childhood
books and the lessons they taught.

A
framed child's artistic rendering of "Mike Mulligan and
His Steamshovel" was presented to Abboud for his dedication
to children's literacy and children's services throughout
Southern Nevada.
