Kids to Kids Adopts 15th School, Paul E. Culley Elementary
October
21,
2007 - Paul
E. Culley Elementary School will be the 15th school "adopted"
by Kid to Kids, the flagship program of Spread the Word Nevada,
Inc.
An
event to mark the kick-off of the program at Paul E. Culley
Elementary will be held on October 30 at 9:15 a.m.
Paul
E. Culley Elementary is located in northwest Las Vegas at
1200 N. Mallard St., Las Vegas 89108.
Through
this adoption process, about 950 students at Paul E. Culley
Elementary will have the opportunity to own books, to enhance
their reading skills and to experience the magic of reading.
Culley
Elementary School Principal Lisa Primas stated, "Kids
to Kids will have a significant impact on many children who
don't have personal libraries. The children can develop a
passion for books and literacy. Along with the empowerment
program at school, reading levels will grow by leaps and bounds.
It will have a positive impact for children who don't have
access or transportation to local libraries."
In
the initial phase of the adoption program, a canvas tote bag
is provided to each child, and each student personally chooses
five books to take home. Each month thereafter, a new book
is added to each child's personal library.
"Breakfast
with Books," a sister program of Kids to Kids, provides
literacy outreach to children and their families through a
monthly breakfast, story time, literacy enhancement activity
and book selection for all participants. Students have the
opportunity to trade books with other children in the program
and share the magic of reading with family and friends outside
of school.
The
ongoing adoption of elementary schools by Kids to Kids is
made possible through grants, sponsorships
and the donation of gently-used and new books. Volunteers
from a variety of community organizations and senior centers
help clean the gently-used books during weekly book cleaning
gatherings.
