to Kids Executive
Director Lisa Habighorst (pictured above, right, with founder
and President Laurie Porter) accepted the Governor's Points
of Light award on behalf of Kids
to Kids
and remarked, "We are so proud to be among such amazing
charitable organizations that are doing so much to bring hope,
peace and change to so many lives. It is very humbling to
be recognized with such finalists and honorees."
Habighorst
continued, "We never imagined Kids
to Kids
would impact the lives of not only the children who receive
our books but also all those who work with us. We have volunteers
who have dedicated every spare moment to ensure the success
of Kids
to Kids
and the children we serve. Whether it's been through computer
work, hauling and cleaning books, creative design work, manning
information booths, or organizing book drives, volunteers
have given so much. I have to acknowledge our staff, as well,
for this team of dedicated ladies work for the betterment
of our children. They put in such hard, long hours to keep
the program running and serving. They truly are 'volunteers'
with their time and dedication. There are seniors, as well,
who meet weekly to clean our gently used books, intellectually-challenged
young adults who take such pride in the books they prepare
for other youngsters, children who learn to give by offering
up their favorite books to be shared with those less fortunate,
and donors who generously provide the resources to perpetuate
the magic of Kids
to Kids."
The
Governor's Points of Light Award is given by the Nevada Commission
for National and Community Service (NCNCS) which promotes
volunteerism statewide.

Kids
to Kids President
Laurie Porter added, "Kids
to Kids
is so proud to be the recipient of such an esteemed award.
Just the name, 'The Points of Light,' expresses our mission,
for light, like the magic of books and reading, is powerful,
strong, and illuminating. When the source comes from the hearts
of so many caring individuals, its radiance is certain to
brighten the lives of many. We are so grateful for the dedication
of so many who make our dream of providing books to Southern
Nevada's at-risk children a reality."
