International Donates 24,000 Books to Spread the Word Nevada:
Kids to Kids
November
10, 2008 - Spread the Word Nevada:
Kids to Kids is a recipient of 24,000 books donated
by Rotary International as part of its "Wide World of
Books" project, co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Times'
"Reading by 9" program. Read
more about this donation on the Rotary Club of Las Vegas
West Web site.
Rotary
members collected more than 242,000 books at the LA2008 Rotary
International Convention in Los Angeles, California. The
Southern California and Southern Nevada Rotary Clubs hosted
the convention.
According
to the Rotary International News, a new Guinness World Record,
"Most Books Donated in Seven Days," was set with
help from Rotary members worldwide. Many of the nearly 20,000
convention registrants, representing more than 140 countries,
brought children's books representing their home cultures
and languages.
Kids
to Kids is one of the lucky programs chosen to
benefit from this international book drive.

the Rotary International Web site, Rotary.org,

Past
Rotary District Governor Charles M. Barr, of District 5300
Rotary International in Temple City, California facilitated
the book drive donation to Spread
the Word Nevada: Kids to Kids.
As
is the case anytime we receive donated books, at-risk elementary
schools in Southern Nevada will benefit from this generous
donation. At-risk schools are determined by weighing such
factors as reading scores, academic progress, and socioeconomic
status during the Kids to Kids' school adoption process. The
goal is to adopt two at-risk Clark County schools every year.
