Vegas Golden Knights Foundation Grants $50,000 to Spread the Word Nevada
At-Risk Students Receive the Gift of Reading
Las Vegas – Henderson, NV (December 5, 2018) – Vegas Golden Knights Foundation and Spread the Word Nevada (STWN) celebrate the adoption of Red Rock Elementary School, where each student receives books to build their home library. The $50,000 Leaders for Literacy Sponsorship includes Full Immersion Literacy Services:
- Kids to Kids, Spread the Word Nevada’s flagship program, puts books into the hands of at-risk children to build home libraries. Each student at Red Rock ES receives a book once a month to expand their selection of books at home to read.
- Books & Buddies aims to improve the reading and comprehension skills by partnering at-risk children with volunteer mentors acting as reading companions. Mentors provide their “buddy” the much needed individualized attention to enhance classroom literacy efforts which are, unfortunately, often absent from the child’s home environment.
- Breakfast with Books is a family literacy program that encourages reading as a household activity. Each program consists of a light snack, story time, raffle, and most importantly the opportunity for both children and parents to select a new book.
