Las Vegas Rotary Club Grants Spread the Word Nevada $25,000

Las Vegas – Henderson, NV (May 15, 2018) – Spread the Word Nevada (STWN) receives $25,000 grant from the Las Vegas Rotary Club. This is the fourth consecutive year Las Vegas Rotary Club grants a generous donation to STWN to advocate for childhood literacy. This grant allows the nonprofit to continue two literacy programs – Kids to Kids and Breakfast with Books at Will Beckley ES.

Since Spread the Word Nevada’s inception in 2001, 54 schools have been adopted and more than 505,000 youth have been served throughout Southern Nevada.

“The Las Vegas Rotary Club’s continued support of our programs speak volumes to its commitment to our community,” says Lisa Habighorst, STWN Executive Director. “By also lending their time and effort as mentors for our Books and Buddies program, the Rotarians truly go above and beyond as community partners.”

Spread the Word Nevada’s literacy programs are an avenue to reach at-risk children and their families to strengthen the place we call home and open up boundless possibilities for their future through the gift of reading.

“In Spread the Word Nevada, the Las Vegas Rotary Club has found a committed partner to help our club fulfill its mission to ‘Teach Youth to Succeed through Literacy, Education, and Life Skills Development,’” says Michael Gordon, Las Vegas Rotary Club President. “Without STWN, we would not have seen the increased levels of parent engagement and completed monthly reading logs from the students. Together, we are making a difference for the future of Nevada.”

About the Las Vegas Rotary Club
In 1923, a group of community minded business leaders chartered the first Rotary club in southern Nevada, the Las Vegas Rotary Club. In our 95 years of Service Above Self our club has had many notable accomplishments. These include the construction of many Boy Scout huts; the establishment of Doolittle Park and the “Las Vegas Rotary Club Kid’s World” at Gowan Park; fundraising for the establishment of a library in Las Vegas; and sponsoring additional Rotary clubs, among many others. Our Club has been actively involved in service projects with a focus on children including “Santa Clothes,” a long standing annual event aimed at providing clothes and mentoring for local children from several organizations including the Boys and Girls Club, Salvation Army and two local elementary schools. As a member of Rotary International, our club also participates in many worldwide humanitarian projects such as the Corazon Superbuild in Tecate, Mexico, polio eradication, clean water and sanitation, and schools in Third World countries.
