Las Vegas – Henderson, NV (March 18, 2014) – Spread the Word Nevada (STWN), the largest children’s literacy nonprofit in the State, is extending a huge thank you to more than 140 of its guest readers during Nevada Reading Week: March 3-7.
The nonprofit collaborated closely with Win-Win Entertainment in securing 20 guest readers including Graham Fenton and Jeff Leibow of Jersey Boys, Maren Wade of Vegas! the Show, veteran dancer Jennifer Romas, The Quad headliner Jeff Civillico, auctioneer Christopher Axelrod, Monica Heuser of Menopause the Musical, and many more!
“We were thrilled to partner with Spread the Word Nevada to help provide them with readers from the Las Vegas entertainment community,” said Jeff Civillico, Chairman of Win-Win Entertainment and Las Vegas Headliner. “It was a great opportunity for performers to get hands-on and give back to our local community. And from the reactions I’ve received from our performers, the experience was just as fulfilling on their end as it was for the students!”
In addition, employees from companies including Bank of America, SuperPawn, Sands Corporation, NV Energy, The Point 97.1 FM, Children’s Author Sarah Hoover, as well as students across several high schools and Spread the Word Nevada Board of Directors members all participated in this very important week promoting literacy and the joy of reading books. More than 223 classes were visited across the nonprofit’s 29 adopted elementary schools. For a complete list of the STWN adopted schools please visit https://spreadthewordnevada.org/adopted-schools
“This was such an exciting week for Spread the Word Nevada, our guest readers and especially for the students across our adopted schools,” said STWN Co-Founder and Special Projects Director Laurie Hartig. “What better way to validate the importance of reading than through the eyes of professionals and older students who grew up with the magic of books. Nevada Reading Week is a great motivator for children to read!”
