How You Can Help

Be part of a community of people sending children to a brighter future with a book in their hands.

Volunteers are the heroes of our story! Spread the Word Nevada grew and reached countless students in need of our services thanks to the support, time and effort of individuals and groups committed to advancing childhood literacy in our community.

Last year just over 8,000 volunteers donated more than 23,000 hours of service to help children discover the magic of reading.

Join our mission TODAY to positively impact the lives of students right here in Nevada.

Volunteer Opportunities

Books and Buddies Mentor

Empower children with reading and help them succeed both inside and outside the classroom. This one-on-one weekly one-hour commitment requires
training and a background check. *Currently Books & Buddies is only offered in Clark County.

Book Cleanings

Make a child feel special by beautifying and prepping the 60,000 books Spread the Word Nevada distributes every month to low-income schools. Perfect for groups and individuals, book preps are offered on various days and times.

Family Literacy Program

Inspire families to discover the joy of reading together at our family literacy program. Held once a month at each of our 62 adopted schools, volunteers facilitate the fun of reading by interacting with families while passing out books, snacks, and juices.

Do I need any training?
Most of our volunteer opportunities do not require training as we provide onsite guidance and orientation. However, volunteers interested in becoming a Books & Buddies mentor must attend one of the training sessions we offer every month during the school year and pass a background check in order to work with our kiddos. Spread the Word Nevada covers the costs of the training and background checks for potential mentors.

Do you offer court-ordered community service?
Spread the Word Nevada is unable to accommodate court-ordered requests at this time.
