Volunteer Opportunities

Books & Buddies Mentor
Empower children with reading and help them succeed both inside and outside the classroom. This one-on-one weekly one-hour commitment requires training and a background check. *Currently Books & Buddies is only offered in Clark County.
Book Preps
Make a lasting impact by helping clean, sort, and prepare the 70,000 gently used books we distribute each month, bringing joy to children in need. This inspiring volunteer opportunity is perfect for individuals or groups, with flexible times available throughout the week.

- Book Preps in Clark County are generally offered at the following times each week (reservations must be made in advance to reserve a spot): • Tuesdays from 9:00am – 11:00am, 1:00pm – 3:00pm • Wednesdays from 9:00 – 11:00am and 2:00pm – 4:00pm • Thursdays from 1:00pm – 3:00pm • Fridays from 1:00pm - 3:00pm

- At this time, we are unable to offer volunteer opportunities to fulfill court-mandated service requirements.

- Most of our volunteer opportunities don’t require prior training, as we provide on-site guidance and orientation. However, anyone interested in becoming a Books & Buddies mentor must attend one training session offered once a month during the school year and pass a background check to work with children. Spread the Word Nevada covers all costs for the training and background checks for prospective mentors.

- Spread the Word Nevada offers a variety of fun, team-building volunteer activities for groups looking to make a difference together. Simply click the link under the “Group Request” button at the top of this page, and once your request is processed, a team member will contact you to schedule your activity.

- Individuals can click on the link under the “New Volunteers” button at the top of the page to submit an application. Once your application is processed, you’ll gain access to our volunteer portal, where you can sign up for the activities that interest you.

- Individuals must be at least 7 years old to volunteer. Volunteers between the ages of 7-15 must have an adult with them at all times when they are with us.
