Readers in Training
Did you know that reading readiness begins at birth? Readers in Training (RIT) is an early literacy program serving families with children from birth to five years old. Aimed at fostering an early love of reading, the program offers families a variety of events, activities, and trainings.
The program is designed for flexibility and accessibility, allowing families to participate in person in Clark County and Washoe County, or virtually if they live in other counties. Each family with an enrolled child receives:
- Brand-new, age-appropriate books mailed monthly
- Simple reading tips and fun, hands-on activities
- Four opportunities per month (morning and evening) for small in-person group meetups with story time, crafts, and learning games (including one in Nye County)
- One or two opportunities per month to attend trainings by community partners on resources, specific literacy tools, and more
- Four monthly virtual check-ins with RIT staff to stay connected and track progress
- Access to a closed group app to find resources, ask questions, and share information
